Three bands. One precise checklist.

Current official breakpoints

What changes at C$100 and C$500.

The current agency tables increase the supporting detail as the total sale rises. They are aimed at evidence for input tax credits, input tax refunds, or rebates—not at creating a universal invoice form.

<100

Base identity, date, and total

Both tables start with the supplier name, date, and total. Revenu Québec also marks the QST amount and a recognizable description as required for QST in this band.

100+

Add tax and registration details

CRA adds GST/HST disclosure, mixed-supply status, and the supplier’s registration number. Québec adds applicable tax amounts and both GST and QST numbers.

500+

Add the buyer and transaction terms

Both tables add the buyer’s name, a property or service description, and payment terms at C$500 or more.

Use the table for its stated purpose

This is an evidence checklist, not an invoice verdict.

CRA frames its chart as information a registrant purchaser needs to support an ITC or rebate. Revenu Québec says no special invoice form generally applies under GST/QST, except sector rules such as mandatory billing for restaurants and taxis, but supporting documents must contain specified information for ITCs and ITRs.

Before relying on the list

Four details that prevent a false sense of compliance.

01

Do all fields have to appear on one invoice?

Not necessarily. CRA refers to invoices, receipts, contracts, or other business papers. Revenu Québec says the information may appear on one or more supporting documents.

02

Are the current breakpoints C$30 and C$150?

The current CRA and Revenu Québec charts display C$100 and C$500. CRA still notes that the increase from C$30/C$150 is under proposed changes effective April 20, 2021, so this checker preserves that caveat.

03

Does the checker decide which tax or rate applies?

No. It does not determine registration, place of supply, taxability, zero-rating, exemption, or the applicable GST/HST/QST rate.

04

Does a seller have to provide this information?

CRA says suppliers have to provide specified information for taxable supplies to GST/HST registrant purchasers. Revenu Québec says a supplier must provide the specified information in writing when requested by a registrant customer.

From one record to a repeatable review

Keep the checklist with the invoice facts.

The C$19 Action Kit adds the foreign-client classification prompts, threshold tests, evidence questions, and fillable workflow that this field checklist intentionally does not decide.
