GST/HST number checker and official registry lookup.

Check whether a Canadian GST/HST or Québec QST number follows the published ordinary format, then open the right CRA or Revenu Québec service to confirm registration status. The number never leaves this tab through Thirty North.

Check locally

Recognize the format before opening a registry.

Choose the tax system and paste the number exactly as it appears on the invoice. Spaces, dots, and dashes are ignored; no registration status is inferred here.

Which number are you checking?

The value stays in this tab. It is not saved, uploaded, or added to the official-registry link.

Format is only the first check

Recognize the pieces without inventing a status.

A well-formed number can still be inactive, mistyped, attached to another business name, or outside the ordinary path. This tool separates local syntax from the official registry decision.

9

CRA registry input

The CRA asks for only the first nine digits of the GST/HST account number—no letters—together with the supplier’s legal, operating, or trading name and the transaction date.

RT

Full GST/HST program account

A CRA program account combines a nine-digit Business Number, a two-letter program identifier, and a four-digit reference. GST/HST uses RT, for example 123456789 RT 0001.

TQ

Ordinary QST registration number

Revenu Québec publishes the ordinary QST format as ten digits followed by TQ and four digits. Its official service—not this page—confirms status.

9 / NR

Exceptional QST paths

A nine-digit QST number can identify a selected listed financial institution and requires the special CRA route. Numbers beginning NR can belong to suppliers outside Québec and should go directly to Revenu Québec’s validator.

A safer number check

From invoice to official evidence in four steps.

  1. 01

Copy the registration number and supplier name from the original invoice, receipt, contract, or other business paper.

  2. 02

Choose GST/HST or QST and use the local checker to recognize the published ordinary format.

  3. 03

Open the matching government service in a new tab. No entered number is included in the link.

  4. 04

Complete the official search with the required facts and retain its search details with the transaction record.

Current government sources

Verify status where the records are administered.

Thirty North does not copy, proxy, or reproduce registry results. These links hand the check back to the agencies that administer the records.

Before you rely on a number

Five practical GST/HST and QST lookup questions.

Can this page confirm that a business is registered?

No. It recognizes selected published formats locally. Only the CRA GST/HST Registry or Revenu Québec validation service can confirm status for an ordinary number.

How do I validate a GST number in Canada?

Use the free CRA GST/HST Registry. CRA requires the first nine digits, the supplier’s legal, operating, or trading name, and the transaction date. A matching-looking RT number by itself is not confirmation.

What is the Canadian GST/HST number format?

The full program account is a nine-digit Business Number, the GST/HST identifier RT, and a four-digit reference number. The CRA registry asks for the first nine digits only.

What is the ordinary Québec QST number format?

Revenu Québec publishes ten digits followed by TQ and four digits. Use its online service to validate the registration status.

Why can’t I validate a nine-digit QST number online?

The agencies identify that path with selected listed financial institutions whose QST is administered by the CRA. Their current instructions say the ordinary online validators cannot confirm that QST status, so follow the official contact route.

After the registration check

Keep the number with the invoice evidence.

The C$19 Action Kit adds classification prompts, threshold tests, evidence questions, and a fillable review path for foreign-client invoices. It does not replace the official registries or professional advice.
